This Indian based multinational automobile manufacturing company is a subsidiary of the Tata Group with its headquarters in Mumbai. Passenger cars, trucks, vans, coaches, buses, construction equipment and military vehicles, today it manufactures all. It is ranked as the world’s 17th largest motor vehicle manufacturing company and top ranking in India. The manufacturing plants are spread across India i.e. in Jamshedpur, Pantnagar, Lucknow, Sanand, Dharwad, and Pune and in various parts of the world, i.e. in Argentina, South Africa, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.
In collaboration with Daimler-Benz AG, it manufactured its first commercial vehicle in 1954 but the pact soon ended. This marque soon entered the passenger vehicle segment in 1991 with Tata Sierra. The next launch in 1998, Tata Indica, was said to be the first fully indigenous Indian car to be suiting the needs of one and all. Tata Nano, the world’s most affordable car was launched in 2009. It made cars available to low income group people as well but the sales were not as expected by the company. Tata acquired Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Company in 2004. It also bought the Jaguar Land Rover from Ford in 2008.
