Popularly known as Maruti Udyog Limited until the year 2007, the brand has proudly survived for more than 3 decades. Initially, the government of India owned 74% shares of the company and 26% was held by Suzuki of Japan which was completely sold to Indian Financial Institutions in 2007. Established in February 1981, the actual production was initiated only in 1983 with Maruti 800, the then modern car in India with Hindustan Ambassador and Premier Padmini as its competitors.
The legendary Maruti 800 was known as the ‘People’s car of India’ and was discontinued after almost 30 years. It was replaced by the nifty Alto 800, breaking all sales records in the first week itself. Maruti has always taken care of Indian outlook, dreams and aspirations as well as pockets. Every second car sold in India is Maruti. Hassle free ownership and the best post purchase service and spare support offered by this brand which has lived up to the title give on People’s car.
